PARISH CONSERVATORY - MUSIC FOR EVERYONE

Did you ever wish you had taken piano lessons as a child? Have you always suspected that with a little training you could unlock a beautiful singing voice? Have you attended concerts that made you want to know more about the lives of the great composers and to really be able to appreciate their music? St. Stephen offers several courses for adult beginners who wish to learn more about music and uncover their talent. This is affordable, relaxed enjoyment! Group classes and private lessons are available through the Conservatory.

Currently we offer:

TOUR of the GREAT COMPOSERS! – St. Stephen's most popular offering! includes LIVE PERFORMANCES by some of Washington 's finest musicians. Come experience the lives and music of the greats in an intimate setting. Each semester will feature an exciting new series of composers.

PIANO for ADULT BEGINNERS I – Learn to really play piano in only 12 weeks! Did you ever take lessons that were boring, unfulfilling or difficult? Are you afraid of the difficulty of practice and the pressure of performance? Intimate, relaxed classes, no experience required!

PIANO for ADULT BEGINNERS II – For students with some experience, or for those who have taken Piano for Adult Beginners I. This course continues the study of physical and aural keyboard technique, and adds the study of written music.

VOCAL TECHNIQUE for ADULTS I – Find your voice! Learn the basics of breath control, relaxation, diaphragm engagement and musical techniques for discovering your best voice. Singing is the most natural way to make music, but can seem intimidating. These are the most relaxed, enjoyable, affordable voice lessons in the Metropolitan area!

VOCAL TECHNIQUE for ADULTS II – For students with some vocal experience, or for those who have taken Vocal Technique for Adults I. This course continues the study of the physical dimensions of singing and develops the students' sensitivity to the stylistic needs in various genres and periods of vocal literature.

BRASS for ADULTS Donald Crafton , one of Washington 's most acclaimed and gifted brass teachers offers a course for adults who wish to explore a brass instrument for the first time, including Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba.

STRINGS for ADULTS Erik Klevjar , accomplished Washington violist and a gifted pedagogue for even the most shy beginner, offers a course for those who wish to explore a string instrument for the first time, including Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.

HOW to READ MUSIC – This introduction to the mechanics of music decodes that mystical language of specialists for the average Joe! This is a wonderful, broad introduction to music theory. Learn for the first time how to hear, play or sing those black specks on the page!
