MUSIC AT ST. STEPHEN MARTYR
Music is an important part of parish life at St. Stephen Martyr. As the parish church of both the Kennedy Center and George Washington University, the church lies at the heart of a significant cross-section of musical endeavor in the city. There is a long history of creative and high-quality music-making within the context of the liturgy in this place, and this pattern continues.
The choir sings at the 11:00am mass on Sunday morning (September through May). The other masses are led by cantor and organ. At all sung masses, we make full use of the rich hymnody and psalmody of the Church, a tradition which has evolved through the ages, and which continues to evolve.
During the upcoming year, we will be rebuilding the pipe organ, as well as initiating many new developments in the musical life of the parish.
