RESIGNATION OF CARDINAL WUERL

The resignation of our Archbishop, Donald Cardinal Wuerl has been accepted by Pope Francis. He originally submitted his resignation when he turned 75 nearly three years ago.  An Apostolic Administrator will be appointed to oversee the Archdiocese. The Cardinal issued this statement: "The Holy Father’s decision to provide new leadership to the Archdiocese can allow all of the faithful, clergy, religious and lay, to focus on healing and the future. It   permits this local Church to move forward. Once again, for any past errors in judgment I apologize and ask for pardon.  My resignation is one way to express my great and abiding love for you, the people of the Church of Washington.”. Cardinal Wuerl's Letter-to-the-Faithful-101218.pdf
